The market is awash in similar midsize luxury cars, and any of them can give you an excellent driving and ownership experience. But the Lexus ES is something special, taking a different approach than most of its rivals. Where they lean into performance, it leans into comfort and serenity. Our test driver calls it “responsible indulgence.”
Our editorial team calls it the Best Buy in its class for 2023, the fifth year in a row the ES has taken our award.
It’s much too early to say whether the ES will repeat the feat in 2024. But Lexus will make some minor improvements to the car for the new model year.
Chief among them is a new Technology Package. It’s available on the Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, F Sport Design, and F Sport Handling trim levels. It includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, replacing the 8-inch screen found without it. Technology Package buyers also get a head-up display and SmartAccess Card Key, which lets owners unlock the doors and start the car without removing the key from their pocket.
Lexus will make no mechanical changes to the ES. But why would they? Power options for 2024 include a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 203 horsepower, a 3.5-liter V6 making 302, and a hybrid drivetrain with a total output of 215.
