2024 Honda CR-V Gets Expanded Lineup, Price Bump

Buyers interested in Honda’s well-known compact SUV will have more trim levels to choose from in 2024. But, as with most things in this era of high inflation, prices will increase by a little more than the usual year-to-year bump. In this case, the base price has risen by $1,090.

Honda redesigned the CR-V compact SUV and its hybrid version completely for 2023. The new model looks more grown-up than past models — a reflection of the fact that many Americans now treat compact SUVs as family cars rather than first cars. The new version wears sophisticated Euro-style looks outside and a smart interior with high-mounted screens and tasteful materials.

It comes in six trim levels for 2024, with five carried over from the 2023 model. The entry-level LX, mid-level EX, and more luxurious EX-L carry a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 190 horsepower.

The CR-V will also be offered in three hybrid trims. Those get 204 horsepower plus a significant boost to fuel efficiency.

There’s no true budget hybrid model — buying hybrid power means springing for a higher level of features at Honda. The Sport Hybrid is like an EX with added power and fuel economy. The Sport Touring Hybrid is the top of the CR-V line.

But a new model appears between them. The Sport-L Hybrid gets leather upholstery instead of the Sport Hybrid’s cloth, plus a power-operated tailgate, a 4-way power-adjustable passenger’s seat, parking sensors, a wireless charging pad, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It gets a 9-inch infotainment screen — 2 inches larger than the Sport Hybrid’s, and eight speakers rather than six for the audio system.

It’s still a step below the Sport Touring, which gets larger wheels, a 12-speaker sound system, and a hands-free power tailgate.

Honda also charges a mandatory $1,295 destination and handling fee on all CR-Vs and CR-V Hybrids.
