There’s an all-new Ford Mustang coming for 2024, and for the first time, its base price will be over $30,000. Prices on most models will increase by around $3,000 compared to this year’s Mustang, which starts at $27,770.
An Evolution, Not a Revolution
The seventh-generation Mustang is not a radical departure. It looks like a subtle evolution of the sixth-generation car it replaces. The rear fenders bulge slightly, while the roofline is subtly higher (designed, Ford says, to easily accommodate a driver in a helmet).
Base models will come with a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine making 315 horsepower (five more than the current model). It sends power to the rear wheels (of course) through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
A step up to the GT model gets you a 5.0-liter V8 good for 480 horsepower in the 2024 Mustang. It comes paired with either the 10-speed or a 6-speed stick.
The top of the Mustang line, at least for 2024, will be a new model called the Dark Horse. It gets 500 horsepower from a retuned version of Ford’s respected 5.0-liter Coyote V8. A 6-speed TREMEC manual transmission is standard, with an oil cooler design unique to the Dark Horse. A 10-speed automatic is optional.
The headline grabber for the new car is an electronic drift brake that makes it easier to go sideways on purpose. Part of the optional Performance Package, it looks like a traditional mechanical handbrake but works electronically.

Ford will also charge a $1,595 delivery fee on all 2024 Mustangs – an increase from this year’s $1,395 fee.
