There are a lot of interesting electric vehicles (EVs) hitting showrooms this year, but few will turn heads like the quirky Hyundai Ioniq 6. It’s likely to win attention mostly for its offbeat look. But the range number on the window sticker might raise an eyebrow, too.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has certified the longest-range Ioniq 6 for up to 361 miles of driving between charges. That beats most similarly priced EVs considerably and even tops the longest-range Tesla Model 3 by three miles.
In case you haven’t made a quizzical look as ads crossed your screen, the Ioniq 6 is one of the most distinctive-looking cars to reach American roads in recent years. Our Micah Muzio has driven it in its home hunting grounds in South Korea and promises it looks better in person than in sometimes-awkward photos.
Its swoopy, wind-carved look is unusual but gives it some of the most impressive aerodynamic scores on the road. It’s matched by a modern interior including 64-selectable-color ambient lighting and textiles made from recycled materials.
We’re still waiting on pricing for the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, which will complete the picture and let us evaluate whether it’s a good buy. But its range, we now know, will beat the average EV.
