Compact SUV shoppers face a huge list of options. It’s easy for a well-made, attractive model to escape your notice in that crowd. The Volkswagen Tiguan, for instance, has always offered sharp handling, three rows of seating in a reasonably sized footprint, and good safety scores. Yet, it can get lost in a sea of similar small crossovers.
For 2022, VW has a plan to set its compact crossover apart.
It starts with handsome, updated styling. Narrower LED headlamps frame the enlarged grille, which now features a lighted horizontal line broken by the VW logo. The rear angle now features the Tiguan name spread wide across the liftgate.
The changes continue on the inside, where a pair of digital displays have taken over the driver’s instrument cluster and the center of the dash. Standard heated front seats bump the Tiguan a bit closer to the luxury category, while in-car Wi-Fi is now available for a monthly fee.
An updated suite of driver safety assistance tech completes the list of changes.
All of this comes for an added price, however. The base model Tiguan S sees its price jump by $750 – but its starting cost is still in line with rivals like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5. At higher trim levels, however, the Tiguan remains among the priciest models in its segment. The latest Tiguan’s manufacturer’s suggested retail prices are as follows. All also carry a destination charge of $1,195.
