2022 Toyota RAV4: Subtle Changes, New SE Hybrid Trim

The Toyota RAV4 turns 25 years old in 2022. Once an awkwardly-proportioned thing that looked like an overinflated Corolla, it’s now the best-selling SUV in America and the top entry in our list of the best compact SUVs. For the 2022 model year, Toyota will celebrate with a few minor tweaks to a successful formula, and a new SE Hybrid trim.

Toyota says it will reveal pricing for the 2022 RAV4 in mid-December. The 2021 model starts at $26,350 and can climb to over $40,000 fully equipped.

The current RAV4 design dates to the 2019 model year. So it’s still relatively fresh. But it’s due for the set of minor changes automakers call a mid-cycle refresh. The RAV4 is already Toyota’s best-selling vehicle, so designers have seen fit to mostly leave it as-is.

A new SE Hybrid trim appears, a touch less luxurious than the XSE Hybrid, but still carrying some creature comforts buyers might appreciate. It forgoes SofTex seating (Toyota’s leather substitute) in favor of fabric, but still offers heated seats and steering wheel. A 7-inch touchscreen (rather than a 9-inch model) and monotone paint will presumably keep it a touch more affordable than the XSE.

A bevy of new wheel options will appear. XLE and higher trims get newly upgraded headlights and illuminated interior switches. XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road models get new LED fog lamps.

At every trim, the glovebox is now lockable.
