The 2022 Subaru Legacy is a sensible midsize sedan that comes with standard all-wheel drive. It has a reputation for sturdiness and solid resale values. The new generation debuted in 2020 and the Legacy got a stiffer body and better suspension tune that helped improve its crash safety ratings. It was recently named a Top Safety Pick+ by NHTSA.

Passenger Room and Comfort
The Legacy is comfortable and quiet on the road, though we don’t love the CVT that it comes with as standard. It’s programmed to simulate eight gears and comes with paddle shifters below the steering wheel for more engaging driving.
In the rear seat, passengers get 29.5 inches of legroom making it almost as spacious as a Honda Accord. That back bench features a 60/40 split that provides for additional cargo-carrying capability. New for 2022, the Premium trim adds standard rear ventilation in the center console for increased cabin comfort.
Features and Tech
The set of driver assistance features known collectively as Subaru EyeSight comes standard in every 2022 Legacy. In addition to forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking (which we kind of expect in new cars these days), it also includes adaptive cruise control with stop/go as well as a lane-centering function.
The center stack is home (in most trims) to an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen that’s very user-friendly. It makes the Legacy seem a bit more upscale and adds to its already pleasant cabin vibe.
Materials and Design
The overall look of the higher trim Legacy models rivals that of some luxury vehicles. This premium execution features brushed aluminum accents, stitched soft-touch materials on the dash and door inserts, and well-bolstered comfortable front bucket seats. At the Limited XT level, you get a power moonroof as standard.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
The trunk opening is wide and opens to a rather cavernous 15.1 cubic feet of truck space. You shouldn’t have any problem getting golf clubs into the trunk.
