Sometimes, there’s just no need to change what’s working. Particularly at a time when change is unusually challenging.
Case in point – the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. In 2021, the model won our Best Resale Value award. It sits comfortably in the top five Best Subcompact SUVs. Reviewers love its comprehensive suite of safety technologies and the 2.5-liter, 182-horsepower engine found on Sport and Limited models. And dealers struggle to stock them as fast as they sell.
So, for 2022, Subaru makes nearly no changes to the Crosstrek.
Prices rise for the new model year, but only modestly. The price change could reflect simple inflation or the added cost of obtaining microchips amid a global supply shortage. Supply chain problems have made updating cars for the 2022 model year difficult — with some automakers temporarily pausing plans to add new features. That could make Subaru’s decision to stick with what’s working a genius move.
Buyers might want to note that the full set of automated safety technologies, known as Subaru EyeSight, comes only on models equipped with the continuously variable transmission (CVT). But manual-transmission-equipped Crosstreks make up a small portion of Crosstrek sales.
