Fullsize Pickup Truck

Let’s Have a Look Inside the 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab

The 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab is one of the most advanced, well-appointed pickup trucks on the road today. It wages battle against vehicles like the Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, and Chevrolet Silverado. It also gets into a few skirmishes with the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan, but is more than up to the task.

2021 Ram 1500 TRX

New last year, the Ram 1500 is available in a fire-breathing, 702-horsepower TRX model that surpasses the Ford F-150 Raptor in sheer power. Yes, the horsepower wars are back!

The Ram 1500 comes in a Quad Cab and a larger Crew Cab. Buyers can select a short (5-foot-7) or long (6-foot-4) box and a variety of engines and powertrain configurations. There are 10 different trim packages, too, so the possibilities are (nearly) endless.

Engine choices include a 3.6-liter V6, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, 3.0-liter turbodiesel, or the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the TRX. The standard V6 gasoline versions are equipped with the eTorque mild-hybrid system. The V8 can be ordered with or without it. This hybrid system uses an electric motor to supplement the gas engine for improved fuel economy, acceleration, and smoothness.

Passenger Comfort and Roominess

The 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab’s interior is quite spacious. Four inches longer than the Quad Cab, it provides room enough for the family and can be had with plenty of flair, too.

The 10th anniversary Limited Longhorn is upscale Western and features tan leather with wood grain accents throughout. The Limited features subtle luxury with leather and contrasting trim. Going further, the TRX features a sense of high-line performance. Available heated and ventilated seating helps keep you as comfortable as you like.

Whatever trim you choose, the controls are well-placed and easy to use. There is an available 12-inch touchscreen that instantly reminds us of a tablet. The screen is large and surrounded by plenty of redundant controls, perfect for those days when gloves are necessary. Rear-seat passengers can enjoy the available reclining seats and additional rear legroom. Optional under-seat storage keeps items organized and secure.

A reconfigurable front-seat storage bin can charge up to five devices or store a 15-inch laptop. Hanging file folders can also be placed inside, making the Ram 1500 Crew Cab an office on wheels.

Features and Tech

The Ram 1500 Crew Cab is loaded with technology from front to rear. In front, start with the available head-up display that allows drivers to keep their eyes on the road while seeing stats like speed, gear, incoming calls, and directions projected onto the windshield.

A digital rearview mirror helps when you are driving with a full house of passengers. Instead of having rear-seat passengers blocking the view behind, a camera located in the tailgate shows a wide view of what’s behind you in real-time on a mirror-shaped display screen. Flick a switch, and it returns to function as a regular mirror.

The award-winning Uconnect infotainment system is responsive and user-friendly. The optional 12-inch touchscreen display is the latest version and has a customizable home screen, pinch and zoom technology, and more. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. A 4G Wi-Fi hotspot is optional for those who must remain connected while away. Speaking of screens, an available 3D 7-inch display screen sits between the gauges to give the driver the latest in directions, and tow status.

The Laramie model includes Uconnect 4 with the 8.4-inch display screen as standard. The Uconnect system with the larger 12-inch is an available upgrade. The $3,995 Night Edition trim package includes many black exterior bits and an impressive 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.

Materials and Design

There is a wide variety of materials used throughout the Ram lineup. At the base is the Tradesman model, which includes vinyl seating with a basic Uconnect system. Step up to the Big Horn model for much of the same, but with cloth and synthetic leather seating surfaces in various colors. Full-grain and Nappa leather are available throughout the rest of the lineup.

The high-line Limited model includes premium leather-trimmed bucket seating and that 12-inch display with navigation as standard items. Power is delivered by the proven 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, a mild-hybrid version of the 5.7-liter, or a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.

2022 Ram 1500 Rebel G/T

If you need real boldness to strut your interior stuff, look at the Ram 1500 Rebel Crew Cab. Order the available red and black leather-trimmed bucket seats ($1,545) for a bold look at a near-luxury cabin. In addition to the red accents throughout, there is a red highlighted steering wheel and red soft-touch material on all four doors.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

The under-armrest storage bin in the first-row seating is large enough to hold a 15-inch laptop or a load of hanging file folders. In addition to that, there are cubby holes on the doors and a large glovebox under the dashboard.

The rear seat folds forward to use as a storage shelf for tools, stands, and other bulky items. The available under-seat storage bin holds smaller items securely and out of sight from prying eyes. The total passenger volume for the 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab is 132.4 cubic feet.
