The 2022 Porsche Taycan – Bill Nye’s favorite car – is a high-performance luxury electric car with sultry Porsche looks, a 0-60 mph time of just 3 seconds in its fastest variant, and one of the fastest recharging times of any electric vehicle (EV).
The 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is all of that with added ground clearance and cargo space.
You might think that would be enough. But you don’t think like Porsche.
Of Course, There’s a Fast Wagon
At the Los Angeles Auto Show today, Porsche dropped the curtain on a third body type for its EV – a heart-throbbing high-speed wagon. It’s not technically a shooting brake because the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo has four doors ahead of its wagon-style liftgate. But, in spirit, the thing’s gorgeous lines ape that rare body type known for high performance, high-style, and few buyers.
The Sport Turismo uses nearly the same wagon body as the Cross Turismo, but without its added ride height and fender cladding. The roof rails are still present, should you need to add additional luggage space for your two-week driving tour of the curviest roads in America.
GTS Model in Sedan, Sport Turismo
The Cross Turismo can be ordered today. It comes only in GTS form – which brings us to the rest of today’s Taycan news. Porsche has also added a GTS variant to the Taycan sedan, though not to the off-road Cross Turismo line.
The Taycan GTS Sedan starts at $131,400, while the Sport Turismo carries a sticker of $133,300. Shoppers can order both today, but delivery will come next spring. Porsche also requires a $1,350 destination fee.
GTS is Porsche’s term for an enthusiast’s variant that doesn’t quite break the piggy bank (at least in relative terms – these are Porsches we’re talking about).
Taycan GTS models, in both sedan and wagon style, have an output of 590 horsepower – more than the base Taycan’s 462 but still below the Turbo’s 670. The adaptive air suspension and active suspension management systems have been recalibrated, Porsche says, “to make the car even more responsive and connected to the road than before.” Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and the Sport Chrono package, with its unique steering wheel, are included.
Black satin trim all around, and exclusive black satin wheels set the GTS apart. Inside, Porsche’s Race-Tex vegan leather upholstery is standard.
