2022 Polestar 2 Gets Longer Range, Lower Price Option

For the 2022 model year, the Polestar 2 electric vehicle gets a longer range and lower price, plus will be available in a new entry-level configuration.

For the uninitiated, Polestar was once a tuner shop known for creating high-performance versions of Volvo cars. It still does some of that work, but the company now produces two models of its own. The Polestar 1 is an ultra-luxury, high-performance hybrid coupe with a starting price of over $150,000. It’s also sold out.

The Polestar 2 is a bit more down-to-earth. It’s a handsome electric vehicle (EV) that straddles the line between crossover and sedan. For 2021, it was available exclusively with a dual-motor, 408-horsepower, all-wheel-drive setup.

For 2022, Polestar will offer a less expensive model with a single motor. Polestar says it has an estimated range of 265 miles. It starts at $45,900, plus a delivery fee of $1,300. Polestar vehicles are eligible for the federal government’s full $7,500 EV tax credit, functionally lowering that price for many buyers.

Those desiring the full dual-motor version will enjoy a $10,000 discount over the 2021 year model. The 2022 Polestar 2 dual-motor model now begins at $49,900 before rebates. That model also now has a range of 249 miles – 16 miles more than last year’s figure.

Options include a range-extending heat pump, a Performance Pack with an upgraded suspension and brakes, and Pilot Pack with enhanced driver-assistance features.
