The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer returns this fall after a long slumber. Designed as Jeep’s entry into the full-size luxury ranks and brand flagship, it competes against the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, and the Lincoln Navigator. The Grand Wagoneer rides on a rugged ladder frame chassis with an independent rear suspension. It will compete for customers in the premium large American SUV segment.
Thanks to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, it makes plenty of power, putting out 470 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Grand Wagoneer offers the stability of Jeep’s Quadra-Drive II 4WD system. It also boasts comfort thanks to a Quadra-Lift air suspension that gives it a smooth ride. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer also possesses the most luxurious 3-row interior we’ve seen in an FCA or Stellantis product. It is an opulent family land yacht with a maximum towing capacity of 9,850 pounds.
It’s an impressive vehicle and one that doesn’t feel as high off the ground as it may appear. Overall, it’s easier to enter and exit. Power-deployed side steps are standard here, but taller drivers may find it easier to step over them.
Passenger Room and Comfort
The new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a living room on wheels. Offering seating for seven or eight passengers depending on configuration, it offers a commanding outward view. It’s available in four trim levels, Series I, Series II, Obsidian, and Series III.
Obsidian is a special appearance trim that slots between Series II and III that features black exterior accents and inserts on the standard 22-inch wheels. Inside, that look is carried over with additional blacked-out trim and accents.
The Grand Wagoneer’s appointments rival those of a European luxury sedan. The new Grand Wagoneer features aluminum, wood, and even onyx glass along with the elegantly named Palermo quilted leather seating. The driver and passenger seats offer 20-way power adjustability with massage, memory, and 4-way powered headrests. Between the front seats is a handy large cooler. Also standard: a heated steering wheel, a memory steering column, and adjustable pedals.
The Grand Wagoneer features power tilt-and-slide second-row captain’s chairs. A 2-3-3 configuration is possible with a second-row bench seat. Passenger legroom is plentiful: Occupants up to 6-foot-4 could fit in any of the seats in any of the rows.
Surprise and delight touches abound: There’s even an optional locking touchpad-controlled safe underneath the armrest on Series I models. In that space, on higher trim models, you can get an optional (standard on Series III) storage/cooler bin.
Features and Tech
In addition to its 12.3-inch digital instrument display, the Grand Wagoneer has up to six touchscreens inside its cabin. These include a center 12-inch infotainment display screen, and just below that, a 10.25-inch control screen for climate and seat heating.
On the other side of the Grand Wagoneer dash, there’s an available (standard on Series III) 10.25-inch screen directly in front of the passenger seat. Here, occupants can watch videos or monitor the exterior through the 360-degree overhead camera. The display is not viewable by the driver thanks to a special directional filter over the screen itself. In the rear, there’s a pair of touchscreens for the passengers there.
The new Grand Wagoneer uses the company’s latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system. A 23-speaker McIntosh audio system brings premium audio through 23 speakers. There are up to 11 USB ports and five available touchscreens. There’s excellent connectivity with standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and onboard Wi-Fi for up to eight devices. Qi wireless charging is also possible, as is Bluetooth for two devices. A rear-seat entertainment system is optional.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
With an overall passenger volume of 179.2 cubic feet, three’s plenty of space for passengers and gear. Behind the third row of seats is 27.4 cubic feet of load area, almost twice the size of an average car trunk. Fold the 60/40 split rear seat forward, and that space grows to 70.9 cubic feet. Finally, fold both rows forward to achieve up to 94.2 cubic feet of cargo room.
If it doesn’t fit here, you are carrying too much.
