Let’s Take a Look Inside the 2022 Genesis G90

2020 Genesis G90

  • With very few changes this year, the 2022 Genesis G90 is largely a carryover of last year’s model.
  • Power comes from either a twin-turbo V6 or a V8, and the ride is smooth and comfortable.
  • Last year’s G90 was awarded a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.
  • Pricing starts at $ 73,950 | Price it your way

The 2022 Genesis G90 luxury sedan goes up against powerhouses such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7 Series, and the Lexus LS. In such heady company, the G90 competes with a low price and a long list of standard equipment.

There are certainly other members of the segment that are more involving and fun to drive, but the G90 focuses on providing a comfortable cabin and a smooth, relaxing ride rather than corner-carving edge. Inside, passengers are treated to soft upholstery and smooth surfaces.

There are two trims of G90, both well equipped. Beyond that, there are very few à la carte options. Every G90 comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Passenger Room and Comfort

As befitting a full-size luxury sedan with a starting price in the $70K range, the 2022 Genesis G90 is awash with comfort features and soft surfaces. There is plenty of space for passengers, although the G90’s 37.8 inches of rear legroom is a bit smaller than some competitors.

The cabin is upholstered in Nappa leather with quilted stitching, real wood trim, and thick carpeting. Double-glazed windows keep out the road noise. Up front, the driver has a 22-way power-adjustable seat, and the front passenger seat is 16-way adjustable. New this year is a Smart Posture function that recommends the ideal driving position. In 5.0L trim, the outboard rear seats are also power-adjustable and power-reclining, with heating and ventilation.

Features and Tech

A choice of two engines are available for the 2022 G90: a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 or a 5.0-liter V8. They both connect to an 8-speed automatic transmission and drive the rear wheels or, optionally, all four. The standard features list is long and includes heated, ventilated and multi-way adjustable front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, self-leveling headlights, power-closing doors, and heated rear outboard seats.

Infotainment comes via a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, voice recognition, wireless charging, and satellite radio. Audio comes from a world-class 17-speaker/900-watt Lexicon surround-sound system.

Driver assistance features include a head-up display, 360-degree camera system, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, parking collision avoidance assist, automatic emergency braking, and forward-collision avoidance.

Materials and Design

The nature of being a full-size luxury sedan means the design will be sedate. With that in mind, the G90 has a presence to it, looking solid and planted rather than too futuristic or sporty. The design is relatively conservative, although the grille may be a bit much. There are a few new paint choices this year, as well as a handful of alloy wheel designs.

Inside, the cabin is full of Nappa leather, thick carpeting, and real wood. We also like the detail of the analog clock in the dashboard and the dash that’s clean and uncluttered.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

Given the size of the G90, it’s no surprise that it has a good-sized trunk. Hands-free operation is a nice touch, and the 15.7 cubic feet of cargo space is pretty standard, if not a bit above, for the class.

With a slightly different rear-seat design in the 5.0L Ultimate model than the base model, the right-rear passenger has a button to move the front passenger seat as far forward as possible (providing it’s not occupied, of course). The 5.0L Ultimate also includes a rear-seat entertainment system with two 10.3-inch screens.
