Having entered its second generation with an all-new model last year, the 2022 Genesis G80 builds on its former strengths and adds some minor new updates, including the addition of rear-wheel steering and updates to the trim packages and driver assistance systems.

Passenger Room and Comfort

The 2022 Genesis G80 is good-looking and nice to the touch even in the base model, the G80 2.5T, thanks to quality simulated leather seating surfaces, soft-touch plastics, and a relaxing, quiet cabin.

In the rear seat, passengers will find an abundant 38.7 inches of legroom, more than any of its competition, including the German luxury sedans. Buyers who opt for the G80 3.5T specification will also get the Ergo Motion driver’s seat (optional in 2.5T models), which includes seven interior air cells for optimum comfort and support.

Features and Tech

All G80s get a 14.5-inch central touchscreen display as standard, and an 8-inch digital LCD instrument display can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch display with 3D graphics. Voice control for the infotainment system is also standard, along with satellite radio, 12 speakers, four USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

In addition to its infotainment tech, the 2022 Genesis G80 gets a lot of driver-assist tech as standard and optional equipment. Standard safety features include forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection, evasive steering assistance, front/rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

New for 2022 G80 models is a Road Edge Detection for the existing lane-keeping function, as well as the addition of Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which adjusts cruise control speeds as speed limits change.

Materials and Design

Style is always a matter of personal taste, but the 2022 Genesis G80 has plenty of it, inside and out. The dashboard layout is well-thought-out and finished with soft-touch plastics, while the roomy and plush cabin is well-finished even in base form, and can be optioned to a level of luxury that makes it a genuine competitor to the European and Japanese alternatives.

Exterior styling includes a full complement of LED lighting, while the G80 3.5T Sport gets unique front- and rear-end treatments, a choice of 19- or 20-inch wheels, and unique paint choices like Siberian Ice and Cavendish Red.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

As a sedan, the 2022 Genesis G80 is primarily about moving (up to 5) passengers in comfort, which it does with aplomb, thanks to a spacious, well-appointed cabin. Rear seat passengers will relish their 38.7 inches of legroom, but so will front-seat occupants, with their even more generous 42.2 inches of legroom. Headroom is also excellent, with up to 41 inches in the front and 38.2 inches in the rear.

The trunk holds 13.1 cubic feet of cargo, which should prove plenty for the weekly grocery run or weekend jaunt out of town. Total passenger volume in the Genesis G80 is 103.8 cubic feet.
