Genesis will release an updated version of its G70 sport sedan for the 2022 model year. Hyundai’s luxury marque will celebrate the debut with a run of just 500 special Launch Edition models.
Built to take on more established players in the luxury sport sedan market, like the BMW 3-Series or Audi A4, the G70 has been a bit player in the segment so far. It deserves more attention. It won the 2019 North American Car of the Year award for its combination of performance and value. Its handling is on par with most better-known sport sedans, and Genesis offers a longer warranty and lower up-front cost.
The 2022 refresh may help it win some of that attention. The redesign, with its sharp, pointed grille and deep character lines in the hood, is dramatically more handsome than the car it replaces. A pair of new suspension modes will give owners more options to customize their driving experience.
The Launch Edition is a cosmetic upgrade, but a noticeable one. It comes with multi-spoke 19-inch wheels in a dark gunmetal finish. It is available in either Verbier White or Melbourne Grey, with deep red brake calipers. Inside, buyers get a choice of Obsidian Black or Sevilla Red quilted leather (go with the red), a suede headliner, and a heated steering wheel.
Pricing is not yet available. The 2021 G70 starts at $36,000.
