2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Sold Out; Factory Starts Today

2022 Ford F-150 LightningFord has closed the order books for its 2022 F-150 Lightning electric truck.

It was already impossible to order a 2022 Lightning unless you had bought a place in line months ago. Ford sells the Lightning exclusively through a reservation system. Customers first bought a reservation for a refundable $100 fee. Ford later invited them to place an order for their truck.

The F-150 Lightning is an all-electric version of Ford’s best-selling F-150 pickup. With prices ranging from just under $40,000 to over $90,000, it offers up to 320 miles of range, up to 563 horsepower, and the ability to serve as a battery backup to power a house during a blackout.

Ford sold 200,000 reservations within a few months of announcing the truck. At the time, that was as many trucks as Ford could build in three years. The company has been working on expanding its factory capacity to speed deliveries of the trucks.

It then began inviting reservation-holders to place orders for the truck. That process has now closed, with plans to re-open it for the 2023 model at a later date.

Workers will begin building customer trucks today. Ford plans a launch event to celebrate the moment customer trucks begin rolling off the line at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Complex in Dearborn, Michigan.
