2022 Buick Enclave: Refreshed Style, New Safety Tech

The Buick Enclave is a roomy, comfortable 7-seat SUV with a low price considering its list of features. But our reviewers have dinged it in the past because it offered similar active safety features to most rivals, but only for an added price. For the 2022 model year, Buick has answered that criticism.

Buick hasn’t announced pricing for the 2022 Enclave. As a reference, the 2021 model starts at $41,995, and we expect to see a small increase to reflect the updates.

The 2022 Enclave has a refreshed look that sets it apart from the 2021 model. The two are largely the same mechanically. There’s only so much an automaker can do when reshaping a car’s front fascia, but Buick has done all of it. A larger and more aggressive grille changes the look of the Enclave almost completely. New, thinner LED running lights and headlights further accentuate the big grille.

Rear changes are more subtle. A reshaped bumper deemphasizes the tailpipes but keeps the high window line that somewhat limits rear visibility. The interior is mostly unchanged, save a reshaped center console.

But the big news is that suite of safety features. Buick’s Driver Confidence Plus package was limited to higher trims but is now found on every trim level. It includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights.

The Enclave will again be available in a variety of trims, including the top-line Avenir model. All models are powered by a robust 310-horsepower V6 linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.
