2022 Acura MDX Type S Starts at $66,700

a The 2022 Acura MDX Type S arrives in dealerships this month, with prices starting at $66,700, and climbing over $72,000 with optional extras.

Acura had two big pieces of news for SUV shoppers in 2021. One was an all-new, completely redesigned version of its MDX midsize, 3-row SUV. It offers a roomy, elegant interior and a stiffer chassis for more precise handling than the car it replaced. Pricing starts at $47,200.

The other news was the rebirth of Acura’s Type S performance marque. With a new TLX Type S and a new MDX Type S, Acura relaunched the Type S moniker that had been absent from the market for about a decade.

That Type S, Acura announced this week, will start at $66,700, or $72,050 with the optional Advance Package. Acura also charges $1,045 for shipping and handling.

Nearly $20,000 is quite a price bump for the Type S. But it adds 65 additional horsepower, and, more importantly, Acura’s excellent Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. An adjustable air suspension system and big Brembo brakes attached to 21-inch wheels complete the performance upgrades.

The package adds a list of high-tech goodies that don’t enhance performance. They include a head-up display, a 360-degree surround-view camera setup, a 25-speaker ELS Studio 3D stereo system, 16-way power front seats, a hands-free power liftgate, and additional sound-dampening.
