2021 Buick Envision: More Stylish, Competitively Priced

2021 Buick Envision

The wraps are officially off the 2021 Buick Envision – a complete wheels-up redesign of the division’s compact SUV.  It’s one of the more impressive second acts we’ve seen in a while. The new version is sharp-looking, built around an upscale cabin with a comprehensive suite of technology. It also carries a price making it a serious option for many buyers.

The outgoing Envision was not particularly fetching, but the new version is. A longer hood, swept-back windshield, and lower stance give it a more athletic look. Inside, the changes are more dramatic. The instrument panel angles neatly toward the driver to create a bit of a cockpit feel. A split armrest allows either driver or passenger to access storage without disturbing the other. A quilt pattern on the available leather seats gives the seats a tailored look. A standard 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, and both Apple Carplay and Android Auto add convenience.

Buick offers three trim levels: Preferred, Essence, and Avenir. Under the hood of each is a 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder putting out 228 horsepower, which is a bit low compared to most of its competition. But, it pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission to return a respectable 26 mpg combined. Available all-wheel drive only lowers that figure by 1 mpg.

The prior model is known for its quiet ride. That characteristic has probably carries over to the new model, but for those who want a truly serene driving experience, the top-of-the-line Avenir model comes with Continuous Damping Control. This electronically-adjusted suspension system involves sensors in each wheel, constantly adjusting the damping force for each.

Pricing starts at $32,995.
