Toyota will soon enhance its large, luxury-laded 2020 Toyota Avalon with performance upgrades engineered by the automaker’s TRD (Toyota Racing Division) specialists. The 2020 Toyota Avalon TRD will go on sale in fall of 2019 with a range of performance enhancements to its appearance, chassis, interior and exhaust system.
The most striking changes include an aggressive front splitter, larger rear diffuser, thicker side skirts and a new trunk lid spoiler. Red TRD badging, red pinstripes and larger 12.9-inch front brake calipers combine with matt-black 19 x 8.5-inch alloy wheels to complete the 2020 Toyota Avalon TRD’s styling upgrades.
Reduced weight
The matte-black wheels aren’t just an appearance upgrade. They reduce unsprung weight by 18 pounds and coordinate with the Avalon TRD’s lowered ride height, re-tuned shocks and thicker underbody braces to reduce body roll while improving steering response. Toyota says the 2020 Avalon TRD’s handling was tuned through extensive on-track testing at multiple race facilities in the U.S. and Japan.

Interior enhancements follow the exterior theme, with black sport seats featuring suede inserts and red accents, TRD embroidered headrests and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with contrasting red stitching. The TRD logo also makes an appearance on the Avalon’s shift knob, floor mats and trunk mat.
301-horsepower V6
Standard equipment on the 2020 Toyota Avalon TRD sedan includes a 301 horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission offering sport mode and paddle shifters. The V6 emits a throatier note through a tuned cat-back exhaust system with stainless steel TRD tips. The Avalon TRD will come standard with all Avalon XSE equipment and features, plus the full suite of Toyota Safety Sense-P driver assist technologies.
Offered in Supersonic Red, Windchill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic, the 2020 Toyota Avalon TRD should be priced around $45,000 when it goes on sale in fall of 2019.
