- New EcoDiesel engine offers 480 lb-ft of torque
- Towing capacity up to 12,560 pounds
- Pricing starts at $36,890, plus $1,695 destination
Ram announced that pricing for the 2020 Ram 1500 with the all-new, third-generation EcoDiesel engine will start at $38,585 (including destination). That price is for a 2-wheel-drive Quad Cab Tradesman and represents a $3,000-$3,300 premium – depending on model — above the 5.7-liter V8, or a $4,995 option. Paying for that engine upgrade provides towing capacity of 12,560 pounds, which is within 10 pounds of the 5.7-liter gas V8’s towing capacity and is also the best towing capacity for a half-ton diesel truck.
While Ram has not yet announced fuel economy for the EcoDiesel-powered Ram, we anticipate it will be as good as or better than that of the previous model, which netted 27 mpg on the highway. Another plus is that diesel will give your truck better fuel range, saving money at the pump.
Ram Classic EcoDiesel remains in the lineup
The Ram Classic with the second-gen EcoDiesel will still be on sale when the current Ram goes on sale with the all-new EcoDiesel, and while Ram hasn’t announced pricing details for the rest of the lineup, they have announced that horsepower, torque and efficiency are improved over the previous generation.
Class of 2020: The New and Redesigned Cars, Trucks and SUVs
The least expensive way to get into a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic with the previous EcoDiesel is $39,140 plus destination, which makes a strong case for buying the lower base price all-new-for-2019 truck (instead of the Ram Classic) with the more powerful, more efficient engine.
When it goes on sale early in the fourth quarter of 2019, the EcoDiesel will be available in all Ram 1500 models, including for the first time the off-road-ready Rebel.
