Ferrari has taken the wraps off the successor to the 488 GTB midengined V8 sports car with the new Ferrari F8 Tributo. The new model boasts the most powerful V8 engine in the Italian automaker’s history by making 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque.
The 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo promises stunning performance from the 3.9-liter turbocharged V8, accelerating to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 211 mph. This new engine makes 50 more horsepower than the V8 in the 488 GTB. The Tributo name pays homage to the car’s mid-engine layout and the fact that it is the most powerful V8 in Ferrari’s history for a non-special series car.
Lighter with a new look
The F8 Tributo is also nearly 90 pounds lighter than the 488 and sports a new shape that signals the direction of future Ferrari design. Penned in-house by Ferrari Styling Center, the front retains the S-Duct aerodynamic look of the 488 but adapted to the extensive modifications to the overall package. As a result, the F8 Tributo produces 15-percent more downforce than the car it replaces.

Other changes include more compact, horizontal LED lights, new brake cooling intakes, and a Lexan rear window that showcases the mid-mounted engine. The rear spoiler has a new shape and wraps around the taillights, which helps to visually lower the rear end of the car and enables a return to the twin taillamp look of earlier 8-cylinder Berlinettas.
Greater comfort
The changes the F8 Tributo bring in replacing the 488 GTB are not limited to performance only. Ferrari says the new car has greater on-board comfort thanks to a completely redesigned cockpit which features new air vents, steering and controls along with a new 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with a revamped user interface.
Other changes include a smaller diameter steering wheel, a newer version of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, which reprograms the stability control and throttle inputs to boost the car’s agility. Pricing and availability in the U.S. will be announced closer to the F8 Tributo’s launch. The 2018 Ferrari 488 GTB is priced from about $350,000.
