Cadillac has taken the wraps off its much-anticipated 3-row crossover, positioned between the XT5 and Escalade. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is the newest addition to GM’s luxury line, and features a host of driver assists, two distinct trim levels and striking styling.
Offered in Premium Luxury and Sport models, the new XT6 rides on a 112.7-inch wheelbase, measures 198.8 inches overall and stands 77.3 inches wide and 68.9 inches tall. The distinctive look builds on the sharp edges and character lines of the XT5 and follows Cadillac’s theme of vertical lighting elements flanking a large shield-shaped grille.
“The XT6 is unmistakably Cadillac,” said Andrew Smith, executive director of global Cadillac design. “It reinterprets our design language in a unique way, with Premium Luxury and Sport models adding more sophisticated or aggressive character depending on preference.”
Two distinct models
The 2020 XT6 Premium Luxury models are distinguished by a bright finish on the grille, window moldings and the optional roof rails. The front and rear fascias are unique, the rear taillamps have red lenses and these models ride on 20-inch wheels. The Sport models have a more aggressive look thanks to a black grille with a unique V-Series inspired pattern, while the moldings and roof rails are black. Sport models have their own front and rear fascia designs with clear-lens taillamps and ride on standard 20-inch wheels, with 21-inch rims optional.

Those differences carry over into the cabin, where the Premium Luxury models feature exotic wood accents, while the Sport models have performance-oriented carbon fiber trim. A Bose Performance Series sound system with 14 speakers is standard, as is a heated steering wheel. Available features include semi-aniline premium leather upholstery, an in-vehicle air ionizer, automatic heated/ventilated front seats and heated second-row outboard seats.
Premium Luxury models have front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive available, while Sport models will be AWD only. Both variants are powered by a transversely mounted 3.6-liter V6 engine making 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. Output is delivered through a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Driver assists
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 comes with a long list of standard driver assists including forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, lane change alert with blind spot monitoring, front and rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist and a safety alert seat that uses haptic feedback to warn of nearby or approaching objects. Options include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, a surround-view camera, a head-up display, reverse automatic braking, night vision and hitch guidance for towing.
