Ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2019 Toyota Supra has been spied in testing with its jointly developed sibling, the 2019 BMW Z4. While Toyota has released a teaser image confirming the car’s existence and impending launch, BMW hasn’t said when the Z4 will appear, although it showed a concept version of the car last year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Most of the mechanicals, including the platform and powertrain, come from BMW’s Z4 replacement, the previous model of which went out of production in 2016. The major differences between the two cars are configuration and styling. The Supra remains a coupe, while the Z4 sticks to its roadster roots, though it will have a soft top instead of the previous model’s retractable hardtop.

The new Supra has been a long time in the making and is the product of the joint venture announced all the way back in 2012. The show car slated for the Geneva unveiling is a race car variant, according to the Japanese automaker.
