The latest high-performance sedan from Mercedes-Benz, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Sedan has been launched with an all-new engine specially tuned by the German automaker’s performance unit. The newest AMG model is powered by an innovated 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that uses a turbocharger fed by an electric auxiliary compressor. The new engine produces 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque.
As a replacement for the previous V6-powered E 43 Sedan, the new model joins the AMG E 53 Coupe and Cabriolet in sharing the new powertrain that also features a 9-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and full-time all-wheel drive. The vehicle can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph. Stopping power is also increased with use of 14.2-inch brake discs with 4-piston front and single piston rear calipers.
The look of the new performance sedan is distinguished by a hood with two power domes and round twin exhaust trims are finished in a high-gloss black chrome along with a redesign of the rear diffuser. Optional 20-inch wheels are also unique with an aerodynamic twin 5-spoke design. Inside, the 2019 AMG E 53 can be outfitted with AMG sport seats and carbon fiber trim. All trims are equipped with an AMG Performance steering wheel in black Nappa leather with red 12 o’clock markings. The wheel has buttons for the active cruise control as well as the entire infotainment system thanks to touch sensitive surfaces.

Boost generator
Another unique feature of the AMG E 53 is its mild hybrid EQ Boost Generator. A 48-volt battery feeds a starter/generator motor that provides additional torque as well as power to the auxiliary compressor that helps to reduce turbo lag. This additional boost of 21 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque also contribute to a fuel-saving hybrid mode in low speed operation and low load highway cruising as well as enabling a stop/start function.
Drivers can select from Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes that alter throttle and steering response as well as settings on the adaptive air suspension. Also, the system allows you to tailor elements from several of the modes in an individual setting.
The 2019 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Sedan goes on sale later this year with pricing announced closer to its launch date.
