Chevrolet has upgraded the charging capability on the 2019 Volt for faster battery replenishment, cutting the recharging time in half on 240-volt Level 2 systems. A new 7.2 kW charging system is standard on the 2019 Chevrolet Volt Premier model and an option on the LT trim level. Doubling the capability of the base 3.6 kW charging port, a complete recharge of the battery can take as little as 2.3 hours.

“With about twice the range added during 240V Level 3 charging sessions, the 2019 Volt’s 7.2 kW system makes opportunity charging more worthwhile,” according to Jesse Ortega, Chevrolet Electric Vehicles chief engineer. “It effectively extends the vehicle’s all-electric driving range, while providing about twice the range for the money when plugging in at public facilities that charge by the hour.”

Also new for 2019 is the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with an 8-inch screen that incorporates a new Energy App. This app graphically shows how the driving style, route selection, weather conditions and HVAC settings may affect range.

The Volt also has new Low and Regen on Demand profiles that boost energy capturing regenerative braking when the driver lifts off the accelerator. Also new is a 6-way power driver’s seat on the Premier and optional on the LT.
