Marking the first time the Suburban has been offered with Chevrolet’s 420-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8, the new Suburban RST Performance Package gives the 9-passenger body-on-frame full-size SUV a new sense of power and presence. First seen on the smaller Tahoe, the RST Performance Package will be offered on the Suburban starting late this summer.
While the RST trim level is not new to Suburban, in the past it had only a 5.3-liter V8. With the Performance Package, the 6.2-liter V8, which uses Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing, is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The RST package also adds Magnetic Ride Control, which has been calibrated for the Suburban to increase body control. There are plenty of available accessories including oversize Brembo performance brakes with Duralife brake rotors, and a Borla dual exhaust system.
Since the RST Performance Package will be an option that can be added to the Suburban RST, this version of the SUV will have the same design cues as the RST, namely the lack of chrome trim, which has been replaced with body-color door handles and grille surround; gloss black mirror caps and grille; and black badges, Chevy bowtie logos and roof rails. The RST rides on 22-inch wheels with Bridgestone 285/45R22 tires.
Chevrolet hasn’t released performance numbers or pricing for the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban RST with the Performance Package, but we expect those to be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.
