Chevrolet is resurrecting the legendary Blazer name for a new crossover SUV positioned between the Equinox and Traverse in its lineup. The all-new entry, the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer, will bow early next year and will feature two rows of seating for five passengers. Based on the same architecture used for the larger Traverse, the Blazer will be built in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, and will be offered in three trim levels, base, RS and Premier.
While the underpinnings use a conventional crossover configuration of a transversely mounted engine driving the front wheels in 2-wheel drive, the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer has bold styling that evokes traditional SUVs. “The Blazer has attitude,” said John Cafaro, executive director, Global Chevrolet Design. “It looks commanding on the road, while fulfilling the promise of versatility at the heart of every Chevy crossover and SUV.”
Cafaro said each trim level in the lineup will have its own distinctive look with unique grille textures. The top line Premier trim will have additional brightwork, while the RS model will have a black-out appearance. Both top trims will boast standard all-wheel drive and the availability of 21-inch wheels.
Two powertrains
The base engine is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. The optional 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions and all-wheel drive models feature a twin-clutch design.
The V6 models can tow up to 4,500 pounds and can be equipped with Hitch Guidance and Hitch View to make aligning and hitching the vehicle to a trailer without the need for a second person to assist.
Another new feature introduced on the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer is a Cargo Management System that features a rail system and cargo fence that can be used to secure smaller items by dividing the cargo area. The Cargo Management System as well as a power liftgate are standard on Premier and RS models.

Available features on the new Blazer include adaptive cruise control, rear camera mirror, panoramic dual-pane power sunroof, automatic heated steering wheel and automatic heated/ventilated front seats that work with remote start, and comfort-open windows, which allows you to open the windows of the vehicle with the key fob to let heat escape.
With seating for five passengers in two rows, the Blazer offers up to 64.2 cubic feet of load space when the rear bench is folded flat. By slotting between the Equinox and Traverse in the Chevrolet crossover SUV lineup, the division is looking to compete against similar 2-row vehicles like the Ford Edge, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Nissan Murano. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date early next year.
