Cadillac has promised a more robust lineup of crossover SUVs to keep GM’s luxury brand competitive in the luxury segment. The next step in this plan is the mid-year launch of the 2019 Cadillac XT4 compact crossover, which has been spotted numerous times in testing over the past year in Michigan.
Positioned beneath the recently launched XT5, the new model will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an 8- or 9-speed automatic transmission and will probably produce somewhere between 250 and 280 horsepower. While the 2-row, 5-passenger XT4 has a size closer to vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5, its pricing, which starts in the low $30,000 range, will pit it more directly against the Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 or X2 and Audi Q3.

Offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will also be available in a plug-in hybrid variant. While the XT4 will be the third SUV in Cadillac’s lineup, it won’t be the last. A smaller subcompact version, the XT3 is also planned, along with one or perhaps two models to bridge the gap between the midsize XT5 and the full-size Escalade.
