After shaking up the mid-size sedan segment with a mid-cycle refresh in 2015 that was more extensive than usual industry practice, Toyota is working hard on a full remake of its bread and butter family car. The 2018 Toyota Camry captured here undergoing testing is expected to bow early next year with some significant changes in both appearance and mechanical package.
It is expected that the car will ride on the Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) introduced with the revamped 2016 Toyota Prius. This stiffer structure also benefits from the use of a double-wishbone independent rear suspension, which is expected to sharpen the Camry’s dynamics. No word yet on powertrains, but it’s likely the car will return with a choice of an inline-4, V6 and hybrid variants.

Familiar layout
The next generation 2018 Toyota Camry will retain a familiar look, a traditional three-box sedan profile with distinct hood, cabin and trunk areas. What the spy shots do reveal is that the greenhouse will be larger with lower beltline increasing the glass area. This should improve visibility and give the car a look distinctive from earlier iterations.
Expect a bolder front fascia as well, something along the lines of the current Prius, Prius Prime and Mirai, with lighting modules framed by LED running lamps. The more aggressive look and independent suspension promises a more spirited Camry when it comes to the driving experience.
