The production version of the 2018 Toyota C-HR was unveiled earlier this year at Geneva and now the U.S. model of this subcompact crossover SUV will be shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show. While the basic design of this youth-oriented “5-door coupe” won’t change much from the global C-HR we’ve already seen, Toyota will announce full U.S. specs on the drivetrain and packaging when the newest member of its lineup finally launches here next year.
Intended to take on rivals like the Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke and Subaru Crosstrek, the 2018 C-HR originally was conceived as a Scion model before that division was folded back into its parent company. Based on the modular Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) that also underpins the latest-generation Prius, the new Toyota C-HR is strongly rumored to be a candidate for hybrid power as well as offer conventional engine choices.
