Subaru released a preview image of another hot model it plans to unveil on June 8 at the same time the STI-enhanced BRZ variant also rolls out. This latest creation from Subaru Technica International (STI) is the 2018 WRX STI Type RA. That designation stands for Record Attempt and also appears on a one-off Type RA NBR Special that will attempt to set a new lap record for 4-door sedans later this summer at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany.

Subaru confirmed several intriguing details about this new Type RA which will be based on the updated 2018 Subaru WRX STI that packs a 305-horsepower/2.5-liter boxer-4 engine. In addition to a mass-reducing carbon fiber roof panel and rear wing, this AWD super-Subaru will feature a revised suspension with Bilstein shocks, gold-finish 19-inch forged BBS alloy wheels and Recaro seats as well as “gearing and engine upgrades.”
