What initially was believed to be a potential full BRZ STI model has now been revealed as something a bit less intense, but seriously cool nonetheless. This new primo variation on Subaru’s rear-drive sport coupe will be arriving here early next year as the 2018 BRZ tS limited-edition. Tuned by the team at Subaru Technic International (STI) and held to a run of just 500 vehicles for the U.S., the BRZ tS retains the standard 205-horsepower/2.0-liter flat-4 engine but gains a host of chassis and aero upgrades that Subaru promises will deliver a new level of fun-to-drive thrills with even greater control and capability.
Turning on the STI charm
Key mechanical upgrades to the BRZ tS include STI-spec Sachs front and rear dampers and coil springs along with flexible V-braces in the engine compartment. Additional stiffeners in the chassis and front subframe improve steering response while Brembo brakes all around bolster stopping power. Rounding out the mix is a set of lightweight 18-inch STI alloy wheels – the largest rims ever offered on a BRZ – wrapped in super-grippy 215/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber.

Available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl exterior colors, the new Subaru BRZ tS telegraphs its enhanced dynamic capabilities with a selection of bespoke visual cues. The most prominent being highly functional STI front/side/rear underspoilers as well as a manually adjustable carbon fiber rear spoiler. On the cosmetic front, the BRZ tS also features a black finish on its mirrors, shark-fin roof antenna and all badging, as well as the STI fog lamp covers that replace the actual fog lamps. As a final flourish, the BRZ tS also carries a Cherry Blossom Red accent stripe around its grille and on its rear bumper.

Inside, the cabin of this hot new BRZ variant boasts a selection of distinctive touches highlighted by black leather and Alcantara upholstery with red contrast stitching and red seatbelts. The front buckets also feature red leather bolsters and a “tS” logo on the seatbacks. Finally, a custom gauge cluster visor and unique door panel trim are complemented with a host of other red and black accent elements.
