Set for a reveal on August 29th prior to appearing at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Porsche released these images of pre-production versions of its all-new 2018 Cayenne undergoing a series of hot and cold tests. The automaker says this replacement for its flagship SUV has completed over 2.7 million miles of at-the-limit evaluations in temperatures ranging from -49 to +122 degrees Fahrenheit in including Finland, New Zealand, Death Valley and Dubai as well as on many international racing circuits.

The all-new third generation Cayenne is based on the VW Group’s aluminum-intensive MLB modular architecture, a transition that should see it shed some weight and endow it with a sportier character. While the automaker has not revealed any powertrain details, the upcoming Cayenne is expected to offer turbocharged V6 and V8 engines as well as a Hybrid and possibly an EV variant.

Visually, Porsche’s rival to competitors like the BMX X5, Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and Range Rover Sport looks to retain a fair bit of the current Cayenne. However some body contours, greenhouse details and lighting treatments appear to have been revised to give it more contemporary flair.
