Update: You can now read our first review of the 2018 Hyundai Kona
Hyundai has offered a first peek at its upcoming all-new subcompact crossover SUV called the Kona. It’s slated to launch in some global markets this summer and join the automaker’s U.S. lineup alongside the Tucson, Sante Fe Sport and Santa Fe in early 2018. Named after the Kona district in Hawaii, this new Hyundai will be aimed at class rivals like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke and Toyota C-HR as well as the upcoming Ford EcoSport.

While Hyundai offered few details about the new Kona, it did confirm this 5-passenger hauler features “progressive style that reflects the lifestyle of modern customers” and offers best-in-class interior space. It also will introduce a number of innovative design features that hint at what lies ahead for its other future SUV models. To further broaden the vehicle’s appeal, Hyundai says the Kona boasts enhanced driving dynamics that will set new performance standards in the segment along with “true SUV genes,” a claim that implies both a robust structure and the availability of an AWD system.
