Still on track to debut as a production-ready prototype in August, designer Henrik Fisker offered a bit of new information about the Fisker EMotion, his electric-powered super sedan slated to go on sale in 2018 to rival the Tesla Model S. Fisker previously said the EMotion would be energized by a new advanced graphene supercapacitor instead of a traditional lithium-ion battery pack. Developed by Fisker Nanotech, it reportedly will give the car a per-charge range in excess of 400 miles while offering greater durability and reduced recharging time. On the other side of the performance equation, the EMotion will have a top speed of 161 mph.

Complementing its aggressive aerodynamic lines and proportions, the EMotion’s butterfly doors and pillarless configuration ease entry/exit to what Fisker says will be an exceptionally roomy cabin, the gains in space due to its unique powertrain design. He added that the EMotion’s aluminum and carbon fiber structure also makes it 20 percent lighter than other cars its size. At some point, the EMotion is slated to offer full autonomous capability, although the arrival time for that feature remains unclear.
