Those who found themselves wanting more than what was on offer in the Dodge SRT Hellcat models will have their wishes come true this April. The automaker has just announced it will reveal a more potent follow-on, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, at the New York Auto Show. Beyond showing off this super coupe’s logo, Dodge released few details the car being dubbed its “new ultimate performance halo.” We do know the new Demon — which resurrects an iconic name first used by the division in 1971 – will be over 200 pounds lighter than its Hellcat sibling due to changes made to its wheels, steering, suspension, brakes, interior construction and various other components. A big part of that will come from eliminating numerous non-essentials in what Dodge now dubs “an ultimate street/strip muscle car.” Intended as a straight-line specialist, this potent “platform” will have only a driver’s seat and virtually no conventional amenities, although it will offer several options, including a Demon Track Pack, Direct Connection Demon Performance Parts, matching Demon spare wheels and Demon-banded tools.
The new Demon also features a wide-body look thanks to integrated 3.5-inch fender flares that add a more aggressive stance and also house massive custom-spec and Demon Branded 315/40 Nitto NT05R tires. These first-ever drag radials will be wrapped around bespoke 18×11-inch lightweight alloy wheels.
