2018 Buick Enclave Previewed

UPDATE: We’ve now driven the new Enclave, as detailed in our 2018 Buick Enclave First Review

Slated to bow at the New York Auto Show in April, the 2018 Buick Enclave has been teased in this preview image. In addition a total makeover, the Enclave will be the first Buick available with the division’s new Avenir sub-brand enhancements.

Buick’s popular 3-row SUV will be spun from a version of GM’s latest C1XX “Chi” global platform that also underpins the newly redone 2017 GMC Acadia and the Cadillac XT5. It will continue to offer front-drive/AWD configurations.  While Buick provided no information regarding the Enclave’s engines, it seems likely this 2018 remake will carry over the current 288-horsepower/3.6-liter V6 and may well add GM’s 255-horse/2.0-liter turbocharged Ecotec 4-cylinder that’s available in the XT5 and in the new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. Transmission choices are less clear, although the Enclave’s existing 6-speed automatic could give way to GM’s newer 9-speed automatic.

Raising the level of premium character, the 2018 Buick Enclave also is set to introduce the division’s Avenir sub-brand. Avenir–which means future in French–will be Buick’s “signature,” according Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing, and reflect “the highest expression of the luxury experiences we’re delivering now and in the future.” To that end, Avenir-spec will bring a selection of exclusive touches that include a 3D mesh grille with a pattern culled from the Avista Coupe Concept, larger-diameter wheels and special exterior trim finishes. A similar kind of transformation will be found inside, courtesy of unique seating/trim details and other still-to-be detailed equipment enhancements.
