Luxury wagons are a tough sell in America. As such, only six models are currently offered in the U.S. the marketplace, of which Volvo builds three. It’s a segment that’s largely neglected due to the fact that most Americans prefer higher-riding, more rugged-looking vehicles (read: SUVs). But what if those qualities found their way into a high-end luxury wagon? Then you’d have the 2017 Volvo V90 Cross Country, which made its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Volvo has been producing Cross Country variants for nearly twenty years, and the engineering formula remains the same today: raise the ride height by approximately 2.5”, add-in standard all-wheel-drive, safeguard the underbody with skid plates, and finish off the look with tougher body cladding. These revisions might not sound particularly groundbreaking on the surface, but they combine to produce a look and driving experience unlike any other in the premium space.
The V90 Cross Country is certainly no exception. With 8.3” of ground clearance (the same as a Jeep Wrangler Sport), a next-generation Haldex all-wheel-drive system, and a presence like nothing else currently on the road, the V90 Cross Country is a compelling choice for anyone looking for a luxurious-yet-capable family hauler in a tidier, more manageable package.

The V90 Cross Country will start at $56,295 when it joins the smaller V60 Cross Country and S60 Cross Country sedan in showrooms during the first part of 2017.
