Porsche will expand its compact SUV line here in the U.S. with an entry-level 2017 Macan fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 gas engine that makes 252 horsepower. Already on sale in other markets, the most affordable Macan makes its U.S. debut next month at the New York Auto Show. The 2017 model starts at $48,550, which is about $7,000 less than the 2016 Macan S. While packing 88 fewer horses than the Macan S with its turbo 3.0-liter V6, this new value-oriented Macan comes with the same 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission that brings Auto Start Stop as well as active all-wheel drive with Porsche Traction Management.
Exhilaration with efficiency
Boasting tech features including direct injection, charge- air cooling and 14 pounds of boost pressure, the 4-cylinder Macan engine makes an impressive 273 lb-ft of peak torque between 1,600-4,500 rpm. With EPA city/highway/combined mileage numbers of 20/25/22 mpg, the Macan also is up to 18 percent more efficient than a Macan S. It’s still a Porsche at heart and can sprint from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds when fitted with the available Sport Chrono Package and reach a top speed of 142 mph. Currently the lightest SUV made by Porsche, the 3,902- pound Macan also offers optional air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management with adaptive dampers.
Feature-rich package
Highlighting the lengthy roster of standard equipment in the new 2017 Porsche Macan are Bi-Xenon headlights, 8-way power front seats, Alcantara seat inserts, a Piano Black interior package, the latest Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, and a lane-departure alert. While sharing the same front fascia and lava black side blades found on a Macan S, the new model also sports matte-black window trim, black brake calipers, 18-inch alloys and distinctive stainless-steel exhaust tips. The order books are open for the 2017 Porsche Macan and deliveries are slated to start in July.
