An EV, minivan and midsize pickup took top honors at the 2017 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle Awards. A panel of nearly 60 independent journalists from across the United States and Canada evaluated dozens of entries in the prestigious competition before selecting the electric-powered Chevrolet Bolt as the 2017 North American Car of the Year, the Honda Ridgeline as 2017 North American Truck of the Year and the Chrysler Pacifica as the 2017 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
In taking Car of the Year laurels, the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Bolt racked up a total of 364 points. The new Genesis G90 sedan from Hyundai’s recently established luxury division was second with 105 points followed by the new Volvo S90 sedan that earned 101. The second-generation 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup collected 305 points from the judges to win the Truck of the Year title. It bested the Ford F-Series Super Duty which received 193 points and the Nissan Titan that got 72.

To officially recognize the growing popularity of SUV-style vehicles of all types, the awards were expanded this year to include a new Utility Vehicle category which includes sport utility vehicles as well as minivans. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica topped the voting in this group by grabbing a total of 300 points. It was followed by the Mazda CX-9 with 135 and the Jaguar F-Pace with 125.
