While the introduction of its all-new 2017 E-Class and 2017 SLC-Class models highlighted the automaker’s breaking news in Detroit, we also got some U.S.-specific information regarding the new 2017 S-Class Cabrio lineup this week. Unveiled last fall in Frankfurt, the first open-air variation on the S-Class platform since 1971 was presented in base S550 and Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic forms. It’s now been confirmed they will be joined by a more potent Mercedes-AMG S65 4Matic and a more exclusive Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet Edition 130.

Heading the hierarchy is the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet, which like M-B’s other 65-spec cars replaces the S63’s 577 horsepower/5.5-liter AMG twin-turbo V8 with an AMG biturbo 6.0-liter V12 that makes 621 horses and boosts torque from 664 lb ft to 738 peak-twist units. The S65 further builds on the bounty of comfort/convenience/safety touches in its S63 sibling with unique trim treatments and larger forged-alloy wheels.

Created to help celebrate the 130th anniversary of Carl Benz and Gottfried Daimler’s first cars, the Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet "Edition 130” brings its own rare charm to the party. The exterior remake also has 20-inch forged alloys reserved for V12-powered cars. Rendered in Bengal Red/Black designo Exclusive Nappa Leather set off with AMG carbon fiber/piano black accents, the Edition 130’s cabin features badging/engraving on the console and steering wheel along with custom floor mats.
