The 2017 Lamborghini Huracán rear-wheel drive Spyder is the latest — and final — addition to the “core” product range of the Italian supercar family. Based on the Huracán LP580-2 Coupe, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stefano Domenicali calls it “a Huracán for those entering the Lamborghini family, wanting a true Spyder experience without compromising on the performance and dynamic handling of a rear-wheel drive car.”
Open-air excitement
While sharing design cues with the Coupe, the new Huracán RWD Spyder sets itself apart with bolder front and rear fascia treatments. It sports Pirelli P Zero performance tires mounted on 19-inch Kari alloy rims. Like the AWD Huracán Spyder, this rear-drive variant features a power-operated soft top that has a retractable rear window and can be cycled in 17 seconds when the car is traveling at speeds of up to 31 mph.
Like the LP580-2 Coupe, the Huracán RWD Spyder carries a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 behind its passenger compartment. It makes 572 horsepower and incorporates cylinder deactivation technology to improve efficiency and reduce emissions. Power is shipped aft via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and reportedly will carry this new 3,327-pound convertible from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 198 mph.
While there’s a good deal of common design in the chassis between the Huracán RWD Coupe and Spyder, the steering and suspension – including the optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering and Magneto Rheological Suspension systems – have been optimized for this application. Drivers can choose from Strada, Sport and Corsa (Street/Sport/Track) operating modes via a button on the steering wheel.

Global rollout of the 2017 Lamborghini Huracán rear-wheel drive Spyder will start in January with U.S. sales expected to start shortly thereafter. While formal pricing has not been released, Lamborghini said it would fall somewhere between the rear-drive and AWD coupe models, which should see it start somewhere around $220,000.
