Say hello to the hottest versions yet of Jaguar’s F-Type. Appearing at the Geneva Auto Show, the new 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe and Convertible expand their enthusiast appeal beyond the “R” variants courtesy of JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). The first Jaguar models to carry SVR badging, they complement a bolder look with more power, less weight and enhanced dynamics.
Attitude and 575 horsepower
Motivating the new F-Type SVR models is a revised version of the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine culled from the limited-production F-Type Project 7. Tuned to make 575 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of peak torque compared to the 550/502 output of the R-spec engine, it also features a new freer-flowing titanium “active” exhaust system that’s both lighter and more aurally exciting. Backed by a recalibrated ZF 8-speed automatic that delivers quicker gear changes, this more potent V8 can send either car from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and take the SVR Coupe to a top speed of 200 mph.

To fully leverage that extra muscle, the SVO team also reworked the F-Type SVR’s chassis and on-demand all-wheel drive. Focused revisions to various suspension bits and tuning are matched with bespoke programming of the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics controls and rear electronic active differential to allow more at-the-limit motoring without compromising basic ride comfort and compliance. Both F-Type SVRs are fitted with special Pirelli P Zero rubber – 265/35 front and 305/30 rear – mounted on lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels. Jag’s Super Performance steel brakes are standard but harder-core buyers can opt for the larger, lighter Carbon Ceramic Matrix hardware.
Aero optimized at all speeds
In addition to adding power and trimming weight between 55 and 110 pounds compared to the F-Type R, the SVR also brings a bolder look. Focused on enhancing aerodynamics and stability while optimizing engine cooling and reducing lift at high speeds, the styling changes are evident from nose to tail. Up front, a wider fascia and revised splitter/undertray work with new heat-extracting hood louvers and slots inside the wheel arches that channel air out through the fender vents. Downstream, the F-Type SVR’s more aggressive rear diffuser works with an articulated spoiler that automatically deploys at 60 mph on the Convertible and 70 mph on the Coupe — or any time the driver selects Dynamic mode. Uniquely designed for the SVR, Jaguar says the wing reduces drag and lift by 2.5 percent and 15 percent, respectively, compared to the F-Type R when deployed and by 7.5 and 45 percent when in the lowered position. Also unique to the breed is an optional carbon roof for the Coupe that jettisons more mass and lowers the car’s center of gravity.

The F-Type SVR also is built to please and pamper those aboard. The cabin features soft-touch trim highlighted by 14-way power SVR performance seats, which like the door panels, are covered in Jet, Siena Tan or Red leather with a distinctive Lozenge Quilt pattern. A 775-watt Meridian Surround Sound system is standard as are Jaguar InControl Apps smartphone connectivity, InControl Protect emergency and breakdown call system and the latest Jaguar InControl Remote, which now supports the Apple Watch. Pricing for the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe starts at $126,945 and the SVR Convertible begins at $129,795. Orders are open with U.S. delivery set for summer.
