Pricing has now been released for the 2017 Genesis G80. The revised and enhanced midsize luxury sedan formerly known as the Hyundai Genesis will start at $42,350 when it goes on sale in September. Joining its larger G90 sibling under the new Genesis division umbrella, this premium 4-door opens thousands below stated rivals like the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, as well as cars like the Cadillac CTS and Lexus GS among others.

The 2017 Genesis G80 will be offered in three distinct variants. In addition to the V6-powered rear-drive G80 3.8 entry model, buyers will be able to choose from a G80 3.8 all-wheel-drive model that starts at $44,850, or a range-topping rear-drive-only V8-powered Genesis G80 5.0 that opens at $55,500. While the starting figure on the base rear-wheel-drive G80 3.8 reflects a $2,650 bump over the model it replaces, that rise reflects a substantial increase in standard equipment. Formerly optional driver-assist items like Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Start, High Beam Assist, Electronic Parking Brake with Automatic Vehicle Hold are all included as are an 8.0-inch touch-screen navigation system that supports Android Auto/Apple CarPlay apps, rearview camera, Driver Integrated Memory System, power tilt/telescoping steering column with a haptic-touch steering wheel, and auto-dimming side mirrors.
Both Genesis G80 3.8 models will offer a pair of group upgrades that will let buyers bring each up to a near-G80 5.0 level of plushness. The 3.8 Premium Package ($4,750) brings things like a 14-speaker Lexicon premium sound system, panoramic power sunroof, ventilated front seats, front/rear parking sensors, and a 7.0-inch multi-information display, while the stackable-only Technology Package ($4,200) brings upgraded leather/wood interior trim, a head-up display, 17-speaker Lexicon audio system, navigation with a 9.2 inch touch screen – but no Android Auto/Apple CarPlay support – a power trunk lid, and more. All versions of the new Genesis G80 will come with the division’s recently announced selection of included owner amenities highlighted by three years of complimentary Genesis Connected Services, SiriusXM Travel Link and Map Care plus 3-years/36,000-miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance and Valet Services.

As for motivation, the 3.8-liter V6 that makes 311 horsepower and 293 lb-ft of torque and the 5.0-liter V8 that develops 420 horses and 383 lb-ft of peak twist both carry over from the 2016 Genesis sedan, and each remains backed by an 8-speed automatic transmission. There’s word that a new G80 Sport model with a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 — rumored to crank out around 375 horsepower — is also in the works, but there’s no official word as yet on that hoped-for addition to the lineup.
