Earlier this year, Ford debuted the hot 2017 Fusion Sport model at the Detroit Auto Show and announced the AWD midsize 4-door would pack a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that made a preliminary 325 horsepower and an impressively stout 350 lb-ft of torque. Today the official stats came out and while the pony count remains unchanged, Ford says the engine will actually crank out an even more awesome 380 lb-ft of torque – albeit only when burning premium unleaded gasoline — when the car goes on sale later this summer.
By way of comparison, that formidable total of peak twist units which add intensity to the accelerative performance surpasses the count of found in German prestige sedans like the Audi A6 3.0T, BMW 535i and Mercedes-Benz E400 as well as the Infiniti Q50, Lexus ES and Maserati Ghibli. “Cross-shoppers will be shocked by the bang for the buck our new Fusion Sport delivers,” noted Ford Fusion marketing manager Wade Jackson. According to Jackson the new Sport variant came about in response to both customers and dealers demands for this type of performance model since the current generation Fusion was introduced in 2012.
