Final EPA ratings have been released for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan and the replacement for the Town & Country earned a 28-mpg highway mileage mark tying best-in-class honors with the 2016 Honda Odyssey. The Pacifica 18-mpg city rating leaves it trailing the Honda by one mpg and the class-leading Nissan Quest by two mpg while its 22 mpg combined equals the Odyssey and puts it one mpg behind the Quest.
Chrysler says the new Pacifica has 10-percent greater overall fuel efficiency than the vehicle it supplants as well as a 12-percent better highway rating. The upgrades are largely the result of the Pacifica’s sleeker sheetmetal and nearly 250-pound lighter weight. The minivan also benefits from a new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and a 9-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission – the first 9-speed ever offered in any minivan. The automaker also notes the Pacifica boasts a nine percent reduction in Global Warming Potential, a measure that takes into consideration the environmental impact of the fuel production and delivery processes as well as actual vehicle emissions.
Chrysler anticipates the Pacifica will generate even more good news on the economy front as the year progresses. New Engine Start-Stop technology for the Pentastar V6 will be first on the scene followed by the introduction of a Pacifica Hybrid – the first minivan of its kind on the market – that arrives sometime in the second half of 2016 and is expected to carry an 80 MPGe rating from the EPA.
