BMW said its 2017 U.S. turbodiesel models will not go on sale at the same time as their gasoline-powered counterparts. The delay is being caused by additional certification testing on the engines required by the EPA to confirm their full compliance with emissions regulations here in America. Specifically, the more involved test logistics will impact arrival of the 2017 BMW 328d Sedan and 328d Sport Wagon which are powered by the firm’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder as well as two of its Sports Activity Vehicles, the BMW X3 xDrive28d — also with the 2.0-liter — and the BMW X5 xDrive35d which carries a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbodiesel.

No changes have been made to the powertrains of any of these four vehicles for the 2017 model year, and BMW says it believes the engines have been and remain in full compliance with all emissions rules. However, it plans to hold off the start of production until the EPA completes its evaluations and gives final approval.
