Stepping up its connectivity game, Subaru will introduce an enhanced version of its Starlink infotainment platform on select 2016 vehicles. Similar to systems used by GM and Audi, the improved Starlink expands its existing roster of available app-based services with the addition of built-in AT&T 4G LTE and SiriusXM Connected Vehicle Services to move beyond the current entertainment-focused capabilities. Starlink subscribers can access new features that include stolen vehicle recovery, automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance and enhanced roadside assistance as well as perform remote vehicle functions via smartphones or other devices. The 2016-spec Starlink setup also gathers vehicle data and issues diagnostic reports via e-mail.

Calling it "the next step in vehicle connectivity," Alan Bethke, vice president of marketing, Subaru of America, Inc. noted: "This system allows Subaru to deliver new levels of safety and security services, giving our customers added peace of mind." Subaru has yet to release pricing information or a complete list of vehicles that will offer the upgraded Starlink system. However, Starlink is currently available on the Impreza, XV Crosstrek/Crosstrek Hybrid, Legacy and Outback and was demonstrated at the New York Auto Show on a 2016 Forester.
