2016 Subaru Forester adds Starlink

Modest but meaningful changes on the 2016 Subaru Forester that rolls into dealers later this summer includes new Starlink sound/infotainment systems and two Starlink Safety & Security packages will be available on all but the base Forester model. 

Once again, the most affordable version is the Forester 2.5i set to open at $23,245 when fitted with the standard 6-speed manual transmission. Backing its 170-horsepower naturally aspirated 2.5-liter "boxer" 4-cylinder with the optional Lineartronic CVT automatic will add $1,000. Both prices reflect a $200 increase over 2015, but include the aforementioned Starlink audio setup that brings an AM/FM/CD/HD Radio with a 6.2-inch single-touch gesture display screen, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod control and smartphone integration featuring Aha and Pandora plus a host of cloud-based apps.

Moving up the hierarchy, the 2016 Forester Premium commences at $26,145 with the manual and $26,645 for the CVT-spec model while the CVT-only Forester Limited and Touring start at $29,645 and $31,645, respectively. Those seeking a bit more firepower will be able to choose between the Forester 2.0XT at $30,045 and Forester 2.0XT Limited at $34,646, both of which pack the automaker’s 2.0-liter/250-horse turbocharged boxer-4 paired with the CVT. 

Starlink Safety and Security arrive 

In addition to the new Starlink Multimedia Plus system with a larger 7.0-inch screen that offers multi-touch gesture controls, the Premium, Limited and Touring models can be had with optional voice-activated navigation along with SiriusXM Traffic, NavWeather (4-month trial subscription included) and three years of complimentary map updates. The Touring versions also bring a 440-watt harman/kardon premium audio system. In addition to offering the latest update of Subaru’s EyeSight safety system, all three upper-level Foresters can be fitted with Starlink Safety and Security features for 2016. The new Safety Plus Package nets SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Diagnostic Alerts while the Safety Plus & Security Plus Package adds Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, Vehicle Security Alarm Notification, Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights and Remote Vehicle Locator.
